Going for gold

In 2021 we supported new garden designer, Freddie Strickland, with his entry into the RHS Young Designer of the Year Competition, held annually at RHS Tatton Park. ‘On Tropic’ celebrated the sub-tropical gardens found in Cornwall, reimagining this iconic style in a northern, domestic context. In this environmentally conscious British garden design, traditional plants were replaced with a tropical palette that might thrive in our warming climate. With climate change a pressing concern, the garden speculated upon the future of low impact garden design and planting.

Freddie won RHS Young Designer Of The Year for his concept, the garden received an RHS gold medal, and James+Cook scooped the Best Construction award. The garden was supported by a number of generous suppliers, including Indian Ocean, Provender Nurseries and CED Stone Group.
